Alternative Book Group: Garden of Departed Cats by Bilge Karasu
Wednesday, September 27, 2017
Doors Open 6 PM | Event 6:30 PM
World Chess Hall of Fame, 3rd floor
In an ancient Mediterranean city, a game of human chess is played by armed visitors and locals every ten years. Turkish author Bilge Karasu has created a work of beauty and strangeness interweaving the narrative of the game with curious tales of defining voyages, thwarted desires, commitment and self-understanding. Join us as we mine the various layers, discovering magical plants, stoat-like creatures, and the peculiar behavior of animals. After a discussion of the many ways the book inspired us, we’ll get creative and develop some of those extraordinary images using a variety of materials.
Free admission. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments are provided.
